Residents and students decry crumbling road near RKM College, Kailashahar, demand urgent repairs

Agartala, 22nd October 2025:  The deteriorating condition of a key road adjacent to the science department of Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Ward 10 of Kailasahar Municipal Council has sparked widespread anger among local residents and college students. Years of neglect and a persistent water leak from a nearby DWS department pipeline have turned the stretch into a muddy, pothole-ridden mess, severely impacting daily commuters.

The road serves as a vital route for students, faculty, and locals, but its current state poses serious challenges. During rains, waterlogging worsens the situation, with stagnant pools and slush-filled potholes making navigation difficult for both pedestrians and vehicles.

Local resident Rupak Chakraborty voiced his frustration, saying, “Water remains stagnant on this road throughout the year. Even in dry seasons, the leak keeps the surface wet. During monsoons, it becomes nearly impossible for students to walk to college.” He added that repeated complaints to the municipal authorities and concerned departments have gone unanswered.

Residents are now urging the Kailasahar Municipal Council, the Public Works Department (PWD), and the state government to intervene immediately and initiate road repairs. They also demand a permanent fix to the leaking pipeline, which they say is accelerating the road’s decay.

“This is one of Kailasahar’s busiest connector roads. The administration must act swiftly to relieve people from this daily hardship,” Chakraborty emphasized.
