Agartala, 11th March 2025 : In a shocking case of financial fraud, a woman identified as the wife of a hotel owner allegedly posed as an SBI employee and duped a rickshaw puller out of Rs 4.65 lakhs. The incident took place on Tuesday near the SBI Teliamura branch, located a short distance from Teliamura Police Station.
According to reports, the victim Shankar Majumdar, a rickshaw puller from Kapalitilla, Maharani Pur was approached by the accused, who promised to help him create a “Fixed Deposit” with the money he had saved in his account. Trusting her, Shankar handed over a total of Rs 4.65 lakhs. However, when he visited the bank to withdraw money, he was stunned to find only Rs 9,000 remaining in his account.
Shankar, with the assistance of concerned citizens approached Teliamura Police Station for help. The police launched an investigation and arrested the accused woman for questioning. During interrogation, she confessed to the fraudulent act. However, when confronted by journalists, she maintained her silence and avoided revealing further details.
The distraught rickshaw puller pleaded with the authorities to recover his life savings. Police assured that efforts are underway to retrieve the stolen amount and bring the accused to justice. The progress of the investigation will reveal how swiftly the authorities can resolve the matter and restore the victim’s money.
