Agartala, 14th December 2024: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the government is working with special emphasis on improving the socio-economic conditions of women in rural areas.
“The government is working with special emphasis on improving the socio-economic conditions of women in rural areas. For this purpose, the process of implementing various projects of the central and state governments is underway because no state can develop without improving the socio-economic conditions of women,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha said this while inaugurating the 19th Saras Mela organized by the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission at the Hapania International Fair premises adjacent to the capital on Saturday.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Saha said that this fair is organized every year.
“The importance of Saras Mela is immense. In this fair, the goods produced by women associated with self-help groups are brought. Many stalls from government offices are also set up here. And the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission plays a significant role in providing this platform,” said Dr. Saha.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi always says that no state can develop until the socio-economic condition of its mothers and sisters improves.
“In that direction, he is implementing one scheme after another. In this direction, the Tripura government is also implementing various projects for the development of women in rural areas,” said the Chief Minister.
He said that in the fields of agriculture, handicrafts, and weaving, or other fields, women in rural areas always try to showcase the culture of the state.
“I thank the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission and the Rural Development Department for creating a platform like Saras Mela to showcase it in front of everyone. This is not just a platform for products but an important area of self-reliance for our women. Through this fair, a good relationship is developed between buyers and sellers,” he said.
Dr. Saha informed that the total sales in the Saras Mela of 2022-23 were over Rs. 1.5 crore, which has increased to over Rs. 4.5 crore in 2023-24.
The Chief Minister said that about 400 stalls have been set up in this fair. Out of this, 363 stalls have been given to women of self-help groups in the state. Ten stalls have been given to self-help groups from outside the state. The remaining stalls have been distributed to various government departments. About 600 representatives from different districts participated in the fair.
The Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Ramprasad Pal, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA Dipak Majumdar, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad Balai Goswami, Secretary of the Rural Development Department Sandeep R.
