Agartala, 5th June 2025 : As Bakri Eid approaches, the Sanatani Hindu Sena and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have stepped up their campaign calling for a complete ban on cow slaughter throughout Tripura.
On Thursday, representatives of the Sanatani Hindu Sena submitted deputations to all District Magistrates, urging strict enforcement of existing laws to safeguard cows.
Speaking to the media, Khokan Biswas, assistant joint secretary of the Sena, stated, “Today, our members met with all District Magistrates across the state. The cow is considered our mother and a sacred animal in Sanatan Dharma. With Bakri Eid scheduled for June 7, we have demanded a total ban on cow slaughter. Cow milk is used in our holy rituals, and it is our religious duty to protect Gaumata.”
Simultaneously, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad submitted a memorandum to West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, expressing concerns about reports of planned cow slaughter at multiple locations in the district during Bakri Eid.
The memorandum referenced relevant legal provisions, including Sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and cited the 1995 Supreme Court judgment in State of West Bengal & Ors. vs Ashutosh Lahiri & Ors. (AIR 1995 SC 464).
“We urge the administration to take immediate action and issue necessary directives to prevent cow slaughter, not only during the festival but in the future as well,” the memorandum stated.
