Agartala, 17th February 2026: Seven families in Ward No. 5 of Nonjala under Banshtali ADC Village Committee, Charilam block, continue to face severe drinking water shortages despite government initiatives to address the crisis.
To combat the scarcity, authorities installed a water pump in Jottali area nearly eight to nine months ago and appointed a local youth to operate it. Pipelines were extended to supply drinking water to households across the village. However, families of Ful Miah, Nasir Uddin, Asab Ali, Hakim Miah, Kabil Miah, Halem Debbarma, and Birendra Debbarma were excluded from the pipeline connections.
As a result, these families are forced to fetch water from distant locations, causing significant hardship. During the pipeline installation, they had requested connections, but officials directed them to apply through the Bishramganj DWS office. Despite submitting applications both at Bishramganj and Banshtali village office, their requests remain unfulfilled.
This afternoon, several women from the affected families spoke to the media, highlighting their plight and appealing to the government and concerned departments to ensure drinking water connections to their homes.
This ongoing deprivation underscores the urgent need for equitable distribution of essential resources in rural areas, where infrastructure gaps continue to affect daily life.
