Agartala, 5th June 2024: The state government has sent a proposal to the central government to set up electric vehicle charging stations at 45 locations in the state.
The information came during a colorful electric vehicle rally organized in Agartala today to celebrate World Environment Day. This rally was organized to convey the message of keeping the environment free from pollution.
The rally was held under the joint initiative of the Department of Transport and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, with the financial support of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency of the Union Ministry of Power. A large number of electric vehicles from ONGC, Tata, Mahindra & Mahindra, and other companies participated in the rally.
On this occasion, a program was organized on the premises of the old transport building in Agartala. On the occasion, Transport Department Commissioner Uttam Mondal said that World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year for environmental protection.
“The role of electric vehicles in protecting the balance of the environment is immense. They also protect people from noise pollution,” he said. On the occasion, TSECL Additional General Manager Kanak Lal Das said that a proposal has been sent to the central government to set up electric vehicle charging stations at 45 locations in Tripura. Traffic Police Superintendent Manik Das, among others, spoke on the occasion. He informed that in 2012, the number of vehicles was below 2.5 lakh, but now it is 7.5 lakh. This increase is creating pollution.
“The government is encouraging the use of electric vehicles, which will have a lesser impact on the environment,” he said. Swapan Debbarma, General Manager of TSECL, delivered the welcome speech.The Department of Transport’s Joint Transport Commissioner Richard J Lalnankima was present on the occasion. After the inauguration ceremony, the guests started the electric vehicle rally by waving the green flag from the old transport building premises.
