Agartala, 8th July 2025: A state-wide mock drill will be conducted on July 9 at around 60 locations across Tripura to assess preparedness and enhance coordination for managing floods and landslides during the monsoon season.
Ahead of the drill, the Tripura Disaster Management Authority (TDMA) held a table-top exercise on Tuesday at the State Secretariat. The session focused on strengthening inter-agency coordination and ensuring effective implementation of the state’s monsoon preparedness plan, as per the directives of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, in his inaugural address, underscored the importance of such exercises in identifying operational gaps and fostering a unified and responsible disaster response.
“Exercises like this are crucial for improving coordination and enabling swift action in times of crisis,” he said. The session was attended by Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey, Health and PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, and representatives from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, NDRF, SDRF, and various central and state government departments.
District Magistrates and key officials participated via video conference, presenting detailed action plans outlining their respective roles during emergency situations.
The meeting was chaired by Major General (Retd.) Sudhir Bahl, Principal Advisor to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), who reviewed the state’s preparedness by evaluating various flood and landslide scenarios.
NDMA Member Lt. General Syed Ata Hasnain also joined the session virtually from New Delhi. He lauded the state government’s proactive efforts and emphasized the importance of sustained preparedness. He also reiterated the need for strict implementation of the Prime Minister’s 10-point agenda for disaster risk reduction. Special focus was placed on enhancing synergy among the armed forces, paramilitary units, and voluntary organizations to ensure seamless rescue and evacuation efforts.
In his concluding remarks, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey thanked all participants and urged the public not to panic during the exercise.“The success of this drill lies in the collective cooperation of all stakeholders,” he said in a statement issued by the Revenue Department.
