Agartala, 27th July 2023 : Former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Thursday said that art and history have done justice after such a long time as for the first time statues of Unsung Freedom Fighters of the North East are being sculpted in Agartala to celebrate the 75 years of Independence.
Dev Varma today paid a visit to Nazrul Kala Kendra and the Sculpture Camp organized by Lalit Kala Academy.
He said, “…statues of Unsung Freedom Fighters of the North East are being sculpted for the first time. It is heartening to know that such noble work is being done in our state by our young sculptors to celebrate 75 years of our Independence”.
Jishnu further informed that this is the first time in history that after the Five Centuries, the most celebrated Army General RAI Kachak of the Reang Community will be visible. “His bust is being made. Rai Kachak was the General of King Dhanya Manikya, who brought back the Holy Mother, Tripura Sundari from the Arakan after a historic battle and installed her at Matabari ( 1501)”, said Jishnu.
Expressing his happiness over the initiative, the former Deputy Chief Minister said, “I am happy to know that a bust of Rai Kasam the other Army General, who defeated the Pathan invader Hussain Shah is also being made. The canon that stands in the heart of Agartala city is proof of his successful military strategy recorded in several historical documents. This was long overdue but soon these two great Army Generals will become visible after 5 centuries. Art and history have done justice after such a long time”.
