Agartala, 5th November 2025:  A storm of outrage swept through Kailashahar on Wednesday following serious allegations of sexual misconduct against a teacher at the prestigious Bhagini Nivedita Higher Secondary School. The incident triggered a massive student-led protest and road blockade, bringing traffic to a standstill and igniting public fury across the town.

The accused, Arup Gope, a resident of Uttar Kacherghat and a faculty member at the school, has been accused of repeatedly making obscene gestures and inappropriate proposals to a Class 10 student. Allegations include lewd video calls at night and attempts to visit the student’s home under the guise of academic support. The student reportedly endured this behavior over an extended period before filing a formal complaint.

The protest led by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) city unit, began around 1 PM within the school premises and quickly spilled onto the streets. Students and ABVP members blocked the main road outside the school gate, demanding the immediate suspension of the teacher and legal action. Chants condemning the misconduct echoed through the town as traffic came to a halt.

Ayush Deb, ABVP’s district coordinator and Anup Kanti Majumdar, divisional coordinator, expressed deep frustration: “When a teacher plays with the dignity of students, it’s not just a personal violation—it’s a societal disgrace. We had informed the school authorities multiple times, but they chose to suppress the matter. This teacher has been engaging in such behavior for nearly a year. We now have proof, and today’s protest is a demand for justice.”

The blockade prompted swift intervention from local authorities. Officer-in-Charge Tapas Malakar of Kailashahar Police Station arrived with a large contingent of police and TSR personnel. District Education Officer Prashanta Kilikdar, Municipal Chairperson Chapala Debroy, and BJP District General Secretary Arun Saha also reached the scene. After over an hour of negotiations, the protesters agreed to withdraw the blockade, but warned that the agitation would continue until the teacher is dismissed and legal proceedings are initiated.

District Education Officer Kilikdar stated: “This is a very serious matter. We will consult higher authorities and take strict action as per the law.”

Local residents also voiced their anger, questioning how such behavior could occur in an institution named after Bhagini Nivedita.

“This is a stain on our education system. A teacher like this belongs behind bars, not in a classroom,” said one resident.

Kailashahar stood united in its message: the dignity of students is non-negotiable, and the community will not tolerate moral degradation within its educational institutions.
