Agartala, 6th October 2024: Former Minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, on Sunday, leveled serious allegations against Tripura Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, accusing him of unlawfully allotting government land to a private hospital.
During a press conference held earlier today, Barman highlighted a recent incident at AGMC and GB Pant Hospital, where a surgery was performed by a team of doctors from outside the state. The incident garnered attention across media platforms. “I started investigating why doctors from outside the state were brought in for the surgery,” Barman said.
He further alleged that around 28 acres of land at Banikya Chowmuhani, belonging to the Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD), was forcibly taken and handed over to a private hospital, SHIJA Hospital. “The land was transferred through an NOC issued by the District Magistrate. Normally, government land is leased for a maximum of 33 years, but no such process was followed in this case,” he claimed.
Barman emphasized that while there is no harm in opening new hospitals, legal procedures must be followed. “How can the Chief Minister allocate land without floating any tender? This is clearly a handpicked decision,” he questioned.
He also criticized the lack of transparency and involvement of the Cabinet in the decision-making process. “No such decision was taken by the Cabinet. I want to ask the other ministers if they have any self-respect. This is illegal. Why weren’t they consulted? The Chief Minister is running the government with his brother and friends. This is an unholy nexus involving his office. I urge the Chief Minister to clarify this matter,” Barman added.
