Agartala, 10th  February 2026 :   Tripura Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday described the Union Budget 2026-27 as a landmark step for agriculture and rural welfare, calling it a “game-changer” in India’s march towards Viksit Bharat under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Speaking at a farmers’ gathering in Gandhigram, Bamutia constituency, alongside Union Minister Tokhan Sahu, Chowdhury said the Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and rural prosperity. He emphasized that the financial roadmap is rooted in the philosophy of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, ensuring farmers remain central to national development.

Chowdhury highlighted provisions to strengthen agricultural infrastructure, boost production capacity, and reduce import dependence. He noted that the Budget balances fiscal discipline with people-centric relief, offering support to farming households while easing burdens on the middle class.

The Minister welcomed initiatives to expand skill development and prepare rural youth for modern agri-tech opportunities. He also pointed to reforms in taxation and banking aimed at deepening financial inclusion, along with healthcare and education measures such as medical tourism hubs, caregiver support systems, and the construction of 16,000 new secondary schools.

Chowdhury praised the government’s continued focus on women empowerment, citing new schemes for women entrepreneurs building on the success of the Lakhpati Didi initiative. He further noted that price relief measures, including reductions in essential medicines and solar equipment, would ease household expenses for farmers.

“The Finance Minister has sent a clear message that India’s growth story will be powered by innovation, self-reliance, and human capital,” Chowdhury said, adding that the Budget lays a strong foundation for sustainable progress in agriculture and rural development.
