Agartala, 24th July 2025: The triennial general meeting of the All Tripura Chemists and Druggists Association (Unakoti District Branch) convened today at Unakoti Kalakshetra aiming to set future directions for the region’s pharmaceutical sector while amplifying the role of chemists in promoting social awareness.
State Deputy Drug Controller Kanchan Sinha, the chief guest at the gathering emphasized the indispensable role of chemists and druggists in sustaining a functional healthcare system. “Making quality medicines accessible to the public is our core mission,” she stated adding that “without drug shops, the medical system loses its backbone.”
Sinha lauded Tripura’s drug control orientation program for receiving national recognition, underscoring that even smaller states can lead in healthcare innovation.
Touching on societal issues, Sinha urged active participation in stopping child marriage and highlighted the importance of pairing hygiene education with broader social reforms. “To foster a healthy society, awareness beyond health is crucial,” she said.
Ahead of the event, she visited multiple pharmacies in Kailashahar, enforcing strict directives against over-the-counter sales of antibiotics. Shops were instructed to display ‘No medicines without prescription’ signage to strengthen public awareness. She also reviewed storage practices, expired stock management, and compliance protocols.
During the session, key proposals were adopted to streamline pharmacy registration processes, enhance traders’ awareness of regulatory practices and promote responsible medicine sales alongside improved inventory management.
Present at the meeting were ATCDA State President Samar Bhowmik, Secretary Bishwajit Saha, Unkoti Branch Secretary Tapas Pal, Drug Inspector Robert Debbarma, and other dignitaries.
