Thief held at Motinagar theft case; Rs 70,000, gold ornaments and TV recovered

Agartala, 19th March 2025:   The police have cracked a theft case that occurred at the house of Liton Mia in the Matinagar area of the Kamalasagar Assembly constituency. The accused thief has been arrested, and Rs 70,000 in cash, gold ornaments and a TV have been recovered. The police presented the accused in court on Wednesday afternoon.

Reportedly, a youth named Liton Deb from the Kamalpur area posed as a laborer and began working at the house of Rithon Mia in Matinagar on February 23. Taking advantage of the family’s absence, he broke into their cupboard and drawers, stealing ₹70,000 in cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables.

The homeowner immediately lodged a complaint at the Amtali Police Station. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested the accused on March 16 last and conducted an interrogation. Following this, a late-night raid on the thief’s residence yesterday recovered the stolen Rs 70,000, a gold chain, a pair of earrings, a ring and a TV purchased with the stolen money.

This morning, Amtali Police provided detailed information about the case to the media. While the police assured their commitment to combating crime, they hinted at certain unseen obstacles that may sometimes hinder their efforts in crime prevention.
