Agartala, 5th September 2025: In a brazen theft, around 22 sacks of rice and several other essential items were stolen from Fair Price Shop No. 3, located in the Durga Bari Banduar, Phul Kumari area of Udaipur. The incident came to light on Friday morning when local residents alerted the shop dealer, Parimal Shil.
According to sources, Shil had left the shop on Thursday after distributing daily necessities to customers. Upon returning the following morning, he discovered the extensive theft. Assistant District Magistrate of Gomti district, Sujan Sen, rushed to the scene immediately after being informed.
The Radha Kishore Pur police station was also notified, but locals expressed frustration over the delayed police response. “The police took a long time to arrive despite the seriousness of the theft,” said one resident.
This incident has reignited concerns among Udaipur residents, who have recently witnessed multiple anti-social activities in the area. Locals are now demanding increased night patrolling and stronger security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Authorities have assured a thorough investigation into the theft and are reviewing security arrangements at local fair price shops.
