Three shops gutted at Border Gol Chakkar fire, locals blame negligence

Agartala, 24th October 2024:   In a tragic incident at the Border Gol Chakkar area in the western side of Agartala city, three shops were gutted after a fire broke out, reportedly caused by a burst cooking gas cylinder. The fire, which engulfed two sweet shops and a stationery shop, was brought under control through the efforts of three fire engines.

Locals allege that negligence was the root cause. “The employee of the sweet shop left the cooking gas cylinder open and went elsewhere. Suddenly, there’s a fire, and the shops were reduced to ashes,” a resident claimed.

Fire engines rushed to the scene, but their efforts were delayed due to traffic congestion caused by illegally parked lorries and tomtoms along the road. Despite the challenges, the fire was eventually contained.

The owner of the stationery shop expressed his distress, stating, “Everything was lost—my xerox machine, camera, and ledger pen were all burnt to ashes.”

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause and assess the damages.
