Agartala, 7th August 2024: The 3-tier Panchayat elections are set to take place on Thursday under stringent security measures. The final deployment of poll workers was observed in the Dukli block of Agartala from Wednesday morning, with workers departing for their respective polling stations carrying ballot boxes.
In Dukli block, there are 71 polling stations, each manned by four to five personnel from the state police and CRPF. A total of 484 poll workers have been appointed for these stations. Returning Officer Sushanta Datta emphasized the importance of safe voting, stating, “We urge all voters to exercise their right to vote safely and responsibly.”
Voting will be conducted using ballot papers. In constituencies with only one level of panchayat elections, voters will use a specific color ballot paper. In areas where the 3-tier Panchayat elections are being held, voters will use three different colored ballot papers.
Poll workers have already left the Khowai Block office with ballot boxes, heading to polling centers. The Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, and Zilla Parishad elections will be held at a total of 90 booth centers in Khowai. District Magistrate Chandini Chandan and Returning Officer Abhijit Das visited the Khowai Block office to oversee the preparations.
In the Ambassa block, polling will be conducted in various Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti constituencies. Poll workers departed from the Ambassa Chandraipara Class XII school grounds amid tight security. Voting is scheduled to begin at 7 am on Friday. Ambassa Block BDO and Returning Officer Munmun Debbarma assured that poll workers would reach their destinations on time. “The poll workers are well-prepared and have a clear understanding of the ballot paper process. So far, no untoward incidents have been reported, and everything is proceeding peacefully,” Debbarma stated.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, tight security arrangements have been implemented across the state. Paramilitary forces have been deployed to strengthen security measures.
