Agartala, 25th July 2025: Tripura has recorded a sharp rise in tourist arrivals, with numbers increasing from 5.29 lakh in 2018 to 7.60 lakh in 2024, informed Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for tourism infrastructure development at Kamalasagar and the Chaturdash Devta Temple in Kasba Kalibari Complex, Sepahijala district, the Minister said the present government is committed to promoting religious tourism across the state.
He stated, “Fulfilling the promise made by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and our government, we are working towards making Tripura a top global tourist destination. In this direction, two major projects—Kasbeswari Maa Temple and Chaturdash Devta Temple—have been developed with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank. Over Rs 18 crore and Rs 13 crore, respectively, have been sanctioned and utilized for their completion.”
Criticizing the previous government, Chowdhury remarked that no significant development took place at the Kasbeswari Maa Temple before 2018. “But under our administration, just as we promoted the Tripura Sundari Temple under the PRASAD Scheme to the global stage, similar efforts are being made for the Kasbeswari temple through infrastructure upgrades, which have now been completed,” he said.
Looking ahead, the Minister added that further development of the temple precincts is planned, aimed at boosting tourism and creating job opportunities.
“Our government has taken numerous steps for the overall development of the state. I’m confident that with the completion of these projects, the local population will see tangible benefits. Tourism not only enhances cultural exchange but also contributes to the state’s GSDP,” he explained.
He also mentioned the upcoming construction of a replica of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Banduar, Gomati District, which is expected to be completed within the next 18 months.
“In the next two years, Tripura Tourism will take a new direction. Tourist inflow, including that of foreign visitors, is rising. This growth will spur various sectors of the local economy. The jump from 5.29 lakh tourists in 2018-19 to 7.60 lakh in 2024-25 shows the momentum we have gained,” Chowdhury concluded.
