Agartala, 6th November 2024: A training program on Rabi onion cultivation was organized by ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Banaras, UP, and the College of Agriculture, Tripura, at the Farmer’s Knowledge Centre in the Bishalgarh sector, under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
An official stated that this training program on the “Production Technology of Rabi Onion” was held on November 5th, with about 50 farmers in attendance. Dr. Tridip Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) at the College of Agriculture Tripura, Dr. Durga Prasad Awasthi, Assistant Professor at the same institution, and Utpal Dey, SMS at KVK Sepahijala, elaborated on various activities, provided guidelines (PoP), and answered farmers’ questions regarding onion cultivation practices. Deputy Director of Horticulture, Sepahijala, Sanjib Debbarma, emphasized the importance of Rabi onion cultivation in Tripura and encouraged participants to conduct demonstration trials on onion farming.
Farmers were shown video presentations on onion production technologies developed by the College of Agriculture, Tripura. They also shared their experiences from last year’s onion cultivation. Onion seeds and other inputs were distributed to the farmers, and this year, the Directorate of Horticulture will provide 25,000 onion seedlings to farmers in Bishalgarh.
The Superintendent of Horticulture, Bishalgarh, Himanish Laskar, also participated in the program. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Prabir Datta, Agriculture Sector Officer, Bishalgarh, Government of Tripura.
