Tripura Congress slams Centre over paramilitary recruitment tests in Mizoram

Agartala, 24th August 2025:  The Tripura Pradesh Congress todaycriticized the BJP-led central and state governments for allegedly neglecting the interests of job aspirants from the state during the ongoing paramilitary recruitment process.

In a statement, the party said that unlike previous years when written, physical, and medical tests were conducted in Agartala, this year’s physical test venue was abruptly shifted to Jauhasang, a remote hilly area near Aizawl, Mizoram.  According to the Congress, the sudden change of venue placed an enormous burden on candidates, many of whom come from financially weaker families. Poor transport connectivity, high travel fares, inflated accommodation costs, and food expenses reportedly forced candidates to endure severe hardship.

“Several boys had to sleep on the roadside, some fell ill, and others sustained injuries while running on rocky terrain,” the party alleged. The Congress pointed out that nearly 8,000 candidates, including 2,000 girls from Tripura, had cleared the written examination held by the Staff Selection Commission between February 4 and 25, the results of which were declared on June 24. However, the physical tests scheduled between August 20 and 28 in Mizoram left aspirants unprepared.

Holding both the Union Home Ministry and the state government responsible, the Pradesh Congress demanded that girls’ physical tests be shifted to Agartala, injured candidates be provided free treatment at government expense, and another opportunity be given to all affected aspirants.

The party also urged the state government to “stop blindly following the diktats of Modi and Amit Shah” and instead pressure the Centre to safeguard the interests of Tripura’s unemployed youth.
