Agartala, 19th December 2024:   With the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) just around the corner, Tripura has rolled out an unprecedented security plan, deploying over 10,000 personnel across the state. The high-profile event, scheduled for December 20 and 21 in Agartala, will host Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and top leaders from the northeastern states, including Chief Ministers, Governors, and Chief Secretaries.

In a decisive move to ensure the safety of dignitaries and participants, Tripura Police, under the leadership of Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan, have mobilized a multi-agency security framework. Personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Assam Rifles, and Tripura State Rifles are part of this elaborate arrangement.

DGP Ranjan, accompanied by senior officials including Director General (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankar, Additional Director General Lalhminga Darlong, Inspector General (Crime and Intelligence) Ipper Manchakm, and DIG Range Krishnendu Chakravertty, conducted venue inspections on Thursday. The team assessed key locations to fine-tune security protocols.

“The NEC Plenary Session is a crucial event for the northeastern states, and we are committed to its success. High-level dignitaries such as the Union Home Minister will attend, and we have implemented a robust security framework,” DGP Ranjan stated. He highlighted enhanced patrolling, preventive actions, and trial runs as part of the preparations.

Over 5,000 personnel have been stationed in Agartala city alone, with the remaining forces deployed across strategic locations, including the India-Bangladesh border and sensitive outposts. All police stations and Border Outposts have been placed on high alert to mitigate potential threats.

Beyond physical deployment, the security strategy includes operational rehearsals to ensure seamless coordination among the various agencies. The state’s comprehensive approach underscores its commitment to facilitating a secure and successful gathering for this pivotal regional summit.
