Agartala, 28th January 2026:    Tripura has officially begun its paddy procurement season, with the state government assuring farmers that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will continue to rise each year under the current administration.

Speaking at the inauguration of the paddy procurement drive in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting farmers.

“Our state government has decided to procure paddy at the Minimum Support Price. The process starts today in the North District, with a target of around 18,000 metric tonnes this season. Paddy procurement will be carried out across all eight districts of Tripura through 50 centres,” Chowdhury said.

This year, the MSP has been fixed at Rs 23.69 per kilogram. The minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath for their support in resolving administrative challenges and ensuring the smooth rollout of the procurement drive.

Chowdhury highlighted that the state government is focused on improving the economic well-being of farmers. “Since coming to power in 2018–19, our government has steadily increased the MSP. It was Rs 17.50 per kg at that time, and today it stands at Rs 23.69 per kg. This upward trend will continue as long as we remain in office,” he added.

Taking a subtle dig at the previous Left Front government, the minister claimed that farmers’ welfare had not received adequate attention earlier. “Our initiatives have strengthened India’s position as a leading paddy producer. Last year alone, Tripura procured approximately 17,000 metric tonnes of paddy,” he noted.

The state government’s ongoing efforts aim to ensure better income for farmers while maintaining a robust procurement system throughout Tripura.
