Agartala, 3rd January 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday said that the state government will decide on the possible closure of schools due to winter conditions only after reviewing the latest forecast from the Meteorological Department.
Addressing concerns raised by citizens over the prevailing cold weather, Dr Saha said the issue has come to his attention and appropriate steps are being taken. He confirmed that he has instructed the Meteorological Department to provide a detailed report on temperature trends in the coming days.
“After receiving the weather report, the government will take a decision,” the Chief Minister said.
He emphasized that shutting down schools is not the government’s primary aim, highlighting the importance of maintaining continuity in students’ education. “While school closures are being discussed, ensuring that students’ studies are not disrupted is equally important,” he added.
Dr Saha further stated that although a file regarding the matter has already reached him, he has asked officials to first consult the Weather Department before moving forward.
“There are reports that temperatures may drop further. If the situation worsens, we will certainly take appropriate measures,” he said.
The Chief Minister also assured that any decision taken after reviewing the weather forecast will prioritize the safety and well-being of young school-going children.
