Tripura holds awareness rally on World Suicide Prevention Day

Agartala, 10th September 2025:  In a significant step towards promoting mental health awareness and preventing suicide, the Tripura State Branch of the Psychiatric Society organized a public rally in observance of World Suicide Prevention Day on Wednesday. The event was inaugurated by Tinku Roy, Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here.

The rally witnessed active participation from students of various schools and colleges, who marched through prominent routes in Agartala, carrying placards and banners that spread messages of hope, resilience, and the importance of mental well-being. The demonstrators aimed to reach the public with a strong message about the need for open conversations surrounding mental health.

During his address, Minister Tinku Roy highlighted the crucial purpose of the day, saying, “World Suicide Prevention Day is observed to prevent deaths by suicide and to raise awareness about mental health, along with the steps we can take to avert such tragedies.”

Organizers and participants jointly stressed the importance of dismantling the stigma associated with mental illness and called for stronger, more accessible support systems for those struggling with mental health challenges. The event underscored the urgent need for sustained public engagement and policy action to support mental wellness across the state.
