Agartala, 20th January 2026: Tripura Minister for Welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Santana Chakma, on Tuesday met Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar Khatik, at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi, to discuss issues related to Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarship schemes for OBC students pursuing higher education.
During the meeting, the two leaders held detailed discussions on streamlining scholarship-related matters and ensuring timely benefits to eligible OBC students. Other welfare schemes aimed at the empowerment and upliftment of OBC communities were also reviewed.
According to Minister Chakma, the Union Minister assured prompt resolution of the issues raised and expressed strong commitment toward strengthening educational and social support mechanisms for marginalized communities.
Describing the meeting as productive and encouraging, Santana Chakma said the assurance from the Union Minister has brought renewed hope for OBC students across the country. She expressed gratitude for the Centre’s continued focus on inclusive development and empowerment through education.
The meeting is expected to pave the way for improved implementation of OBC welfare schemes and timely disbursal of scholarships, benefiting thousands of students.
