Agartala, 29th July 2025: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police seized cannabis worth approximately 1 crore and arrested one individual in two separate operations carried out in Sepahijala district during the early hours of Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, Tapas Das, said that acting on a tip-off, police first arrested one Indra Kumar Debbarma and recovered cannabis valued at around 28 lakh from his possession.
In a separate operation conducted deep inside the forest area of Dhanirampur under Sepahijala district, police recovered a huge consignment of dry cannabis weighing 386 kilograms. The contraband was concealed in nine plastic drums and appeared to have been abandoned.
“The seized ganja was found unclaimed. All legal procedures were followed during the seizure,” the OC said, adding that preliminary investigation indicates the contraband was intended for illegal trafficking.The estimated market value of the seized cannabis in this operation stands at approximately 77.20 lakh.
A case has been registered, and police have launched an intensive investigation to trace the individuals and networks involved in the smuggling operation.
