Agartala, 26th February 2026: The Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress on Tuesday staged a demonstration condemning the alleged brutal assault of a female student from Tripura who had travelled to Gurgaon for her studies.
As part of the protest, members assembled in front of Congress Bhavan and burnt an effigy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding immediate action and strict punishment for those responsible for the crime.
Speaking to reporters, State President Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty said that women across the country, including in Delhi and several other states, are increasingly facing insecurity. She termed the alleged assault on the Tripura student as shameful and alarming, calling for the swift arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment.
She further alleged that the government has failed to control the rising incidents of violence against women. According to her, the worsening law and order situation and lack of effective measures have resulted in repeated heinous crimes. She claimed that in many BJP-ruled states, cases of violence against women continue to surface.
Chakraborty emphasized that such incidents are not confined to Gurgaon alone but are being reported from various parts of the country, including Tripura. She criticized the BJP-led government for failing to ensure adequate safety for women and demanded strict implementation of laws, speedy trials, and accountability from those in authority.
The organization reiterated its call for prompt justice and stronger safeguards to prevent crimes against women.
