Agartala, 11th August 2024: The Tripura State Hindu Samaj has intensified its demand for the protection of minorities in Bangladesh, as protests against attacks and killings continue to gain momentum. The movement has sparked widespread demonstrations across the state, with people rallying against the violence in Bangladesh.
The Tripura State Hindu Samaj organized a protest program, initially planned to commence from Swami Vivekananda Maidan here on Sunday monring. However, when protestors arrived at Agartala railway station from various parts of the state, they were halted by security personnel led by the West Tripura District Superintendent of Police.
Standing at the Agartala railway station, the protestors condemned the extreme inhumanity of the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. Representatives from the Longtharai Valley section of the Tripura State Committee of the Bangali Oikyabaddho Samaj accused the government of conspiring to block their procession. “The government’s actions suggest a conspiracy to suppress our voices. Persecution of minorities is escalating in neighboring countries, and today’s massive program was an attempt to urge the Bangladesh government to take immediate measures to stop such intolerable incidents,” a spokesperson stated.
The protestors aimed to send a strong message to the Bangladesh government, demanding an end to the violence. “We want the Bangladesh government to hear our plea and take action,” another protestor emphasized. “If the so-called political leaders do not stop their negative views, the Hindu Sanatan Samaj of the state will embark on a larger movement.”
District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K addressed the media, revealing that two audios had been circulated on social media, potentially escalating the situation. “We have arrested two individuals and may arrest more to prevent the situation from becoming dangerous. To maintain order, we stopped the movement at the railway station itself. Any attempts to escalate the situation will be met with action,” he said.
He further clarified that no such programs would be accepted and that the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) were jointly patrolling the border with the Border Security Force (BSF). “Additional security measures are in place, and the situation is currently under control. The administration is committed to preventing any provocative campaigns that could lead to unrest,” he assured.
However, the protestors remain determined to continue their movement until their demands is met, highlighting the ongoing tension and the urgent need for resolution.
