Agartala, 19th February 2026:    The Tripura Government will organize a 14-day Handloom and Handicrafts Fair ‘State Handloom Expo 2025-26’ beginning February 25 at the Chakmaghat Barrage premises under Teliamura subdivision in the Krishnapur Assembly constituency.

The event led by the Department of Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture, aims to revive indigenous industries and promote local artisans.

A preparatory meeting was convened today at the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, attended by Minister for Tribal Welfare Bikash Debbarma, Director of Handloom Ajit Shukla Das, Teliamura Municipal Council Chairman Rupak Sarkar, Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Deepa Deb, senior district officials, and representatives from multiple departments.

Over two days of deliberations, officials finalized stall layouts, security arrangements, cultural programmes, and artisan participation. Emphasis was placed on administrative coordination and public engagement to ensure the fair’s success.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Bikash Debbarma said, “This fair will highlight the importance of using indigenous products. Only by embracing Swadeshi can we build a developed India. Handloom and handicrafts are not just carriers of tradition but also pillars of the rural economy. Particularly for women, handloom can be a powerful tool for self-reliance.”

Officials noted that the expo will provide a vital platform for weavers and artisans to interact directly with buyers, expand market opportunities, and gain exposure to new designs and technologies. Cultural performances by local artists are also expected to add vibrancy to the event.

The initiative has generated optimism among the artisan community, who view the fair as an opportunity to showcase their craft and connect with wider audiences. All eyes are now on February 25, when the expo opens, potentially ushering in new momentum for Tripura’s handloom and handicraft sector.
