Agartala, 3rd December 2025: A joint operation by Sribhumi District Headquarters Police and Ratabari Police Station in Assam’s Ramkrishnanagar subdivision led to the arrest of a youth from Tripura this evening. The suspect was detained in the Anipur area near the local sugar mill, following a tip-off about illegal activities.
The operation was led by DSP Rituraj Majumdar and OC Bimal Chettri. During the raid, police recovered a 7.56 mm pistol and 22 grams of yaba tablets from the accused, identified as Debjyoti Banik, a resident of Dharmanagar in Tripura.
Preliminary interrogation suggests that Banik may have links to an illegal arms trafficking network. Investigators believe further questioning will reveal details about his routes from Tripura, the duration of his involvement, and possible associates connected to the racket.
Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and more information is expected to surface in the coming days.
