Agartala, 1st February 2025 : Tripura’s former Chief Minister and incumbent Rajya Sabha MP, Biplab Kumar Deb, has lauded the 2025-26 Union Budget, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, for reflecting the aspirations of people from all sections of society. Deb emphasized that the budget aims to improve the lives of middle and lower-income groups, accelerating their all-round development and contributing to the vision of a developed India.
Deb highlighted the budget’s realistic roadmap for the empowerment of the poor, youth, farmers, and women. He noted that in the last decade, the world has witnessed a new and strong India, and this budget further strengthens India’s role in the global economy. Key measures include tax exemption on annual income up to Rs 12 lakh, an amendment bill to simplify the tax structure, and relief for senior citizens in TDS, which will benefit both the middle and lower-middle classes.
The budget also simplifies 100 percent foreign investment in the insurance sector and introduces special initiatives for women empowerment, ensuring their economic independence and social participation. Deb pointed out that the budget opens new doors for development and innovation in agriculture, manufacturing, employment, MSMEs, and rural areas. New packages to encourage tourism and the redevelopment of 50 tourist centers are expected to boost the economy.
Deb praised the complete removal of duty on 36 cancer drugs, which will reduce medical expenses for those suffering from this incurable disease. He also commended the special initiatives for nuclear power production, aiming to reach every household, and the formation of a special board to speed up butter cultivation, benefiting families financially.
The budget increases the loan facility on micro credit cards for small and medium industries, targets increased small-scale exports, and announces a new fertilizer factory in Assam and three more centers in the eastern region. Deb highlighted the additional economic opportunities in the startup fund, which will benefit young entrepreneurs, and the development of the leather industry through increased production of leather products.
Deb noted the increase in the loan limit on Kisan Credit Cards from three to five lakh, initiatives to help 1 crore 70 lakh farmers under the Dhan Dhanya Yojana in 100 districts, and targets for self-reliance in pulse cultivation and edible oil production. He emphasized the budget’s focus on cotton production and its potential to bring smiles to the faces of farmers.
Deb also praised the budget’s target of increasing medical college seats by 10,000 in one year and 75,000 in the next five years, along with the establishment of cancer research centers in most government hospitals. He highlighted the benefits for students from additional investment in IIT infrastructure and the expansion of IITs.
Deb concluded by expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for this people-oriented budget, which he believes is a true blueprint for growth across all regions of the country. He emphasized that the construction of 120 new airports, removal of duty on 35 lithium-ion battery components, and reduction in the cost of battery-powered vehicles will enhance the communication system and benefit the economy.
