Agartala, 24th July 2025:  In a significant field-level review, Secretary of Tribal Welfare department Dr K Sashi Kumar visited the Jampuijala RD Block to assess the progress of livelihood interventions under the World Bank-supported Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP).

During the visit, Dr. Kumar interacted with members of the Yakhili Producer Group (PG), a 22-member livestock-based group engaged in piggery farming. The PG, supported with Rs 6 lakh as working capital and Rs 50,000 as establishment cost, has initiated pig production and fattening units. With 10 members already availing loans at 3% interest and starting repayment, the group showcases an emerging success model.

Commending the dedication of Block Programme Manager Jhuton Ghosh for his proactive role in piglet procurement and shed construction support, Dr. Kumar appreciated the group’s achievements and the continuous efforts of the TRESP team.

Key state-level officials, including Sonali Laskar (Institution Building Specialist), B. Hizam (Fishery Specialist), and Abdur Rahman Choudhury (Training Specialist, SIPARD), accompanied the Secretary. Issues such as lack of vaccines and delays in insurance coverage were raised by the PG members. Officials from ARDD, including Dr. Sujoy Biswas, TSA Lead Dr. Kranthi Suman, and local veterinary officers, were also present.

Dr. Kumar also inspected Twiboma Fishery PG to evaluate its progress, emphasizing the state’s commitment to rural economic transformation. This high-level visit marks a strategic move to ensure grassroots-level monitoring, reinforcing the confidence of rural women and promoting inclusive development under TRESP.
