Agartala, 11th November 2025: Discipline continues to deteriorate at the state’s premier referral hospital, GB Hospital, as incidents of assaults and negligence keep surfacing.
There have been several complaints in the past — from attacks on doctors and nurses to patients’ families leaving the hospital in tears after failing to receive proper medical care.
The latest incident involves the assault of a doctor and a nurse on duty at GB Hospital.
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack today. According to the officer-in-charge of NCC Police Station, a case was registered late Monday night based on a written complaint from the hospital authorities.
The complaint stated that some relatives of a patient misbehaved with and assaulted the on-duty doctor and nurse. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and soon identified and arrested two suspects, identified as Abhijit Shil and Abhijit Das, both residents of Kakraban.
On Tuesday, the arrested individuals were produced before the court, where police sought their remand for further questioning.
Officials mentioned that CCTV footage from inside the hospital will help clarify exactly what transpired that night. Meanwhile, members of the public and medical community have demanded strict and exemplary punishment if the accused are found guilty.
