Two children drown in pond at Nagicherra

Agartala, 18th October 2024:  The community in the Kalidas Para area of Nagicherra, a suburb of the capital city was rocked by tragedy on Friday when two children mysteriously drowned while playing near a local pond. The victims, identified as Pinky Das and Urmila Marak were reportedly having fun when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Local residents first noticed something was wrong when they saw the children lying in the water. “We rushed to inform the fire department as soon as we realized what had happened,” one witness recounted. Firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and worked swiftly to rescue the children, transporting them to Anandnagar Primary Health Centre. However, the attending physician declared both children dead upon arrival.

Rajen Marak, father of the deceased Urmila, expressed his devastation, saying, “I am a mason by trade and live in Kailashahar. I saw my daughter playing just before I left the house on Friday morning. I can’t comprehend how this tragedy took place.” He received the heartbreaking news around noon and rushed back home, only to confront the grim reality of the situation.

At the health center, the families of the two children were inconsolable, weeping for their lost loved ones. According to the firefighters, one child was able to escape from the pond and returned home, while the other two tragically remained in the water. This incident has cast a deep shadow of grief over the Nagicherra community, leaving residents in shock and mourning.
