Agartala, 1st February 2025 : The North-East Japan Caravan 2024-25 has been inaugurated today at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here. The event was organized by the Embassy of Japan in India, Japan Foundation, and the North Eastern Regional Office of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), aims to strengthen cultural ties between North-East India and Japan.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. P. K. Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs department, who emphasized the cultural, traditional, and culinary similarities between the people of North-East India and Japan. “The goal of this program is to foster a sense of fraternity between the two countries through the exchange of languages, cultures, and traditions,” Dr. Chakraborty stated.
The event also featured addresses by Takashi Kobayashi, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in India, and Koji Sato, Director of the Japan Foundation, New Delhi. Munish Singh, Director of the North Eastern Regional Office of ICCR, was also present at the ceremony.
The first day of the two-day program showcased a vibrant array of cultural performances by local artists, alongside captivating performances by a cultural group from Japan. Additionally, two Japanese animation films were screened, delighting the audience.
As part of the North-East Japan Caravan, various engaging activities have been organized at the Rabindra Centenary Building premises. These include cosplay performances and workshops, judo and karate demonstrations, and exhibitions of traditional Japanese clothing, Japanese calligraphy, bamboo products, and origami. The organizers have extended an invitation to the youth of the state to participate in these activities in large numbers.
The North-East Japan Caravan will conclude tomorrow, continuing to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of both regions and fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation between the people of North-East India and Japan.
