Agartala, 6th October 2024: Two more persons involving in verbally attacks of two traffic police were arrested today. In a shocking incident on the afternoon of Mahalaya, two traffic police personnel were verbally abused and harassed in the Netaji Chaumuhani area of the capital. A video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, sparked widespread outrage and criticism.
The viral footage shows three young men verbally abusing the police officers, including making caste-based insults, and even threatening to attack them on their way home. Following the public outcry, a case was promptly registered at the West Agartala police station leading to the arrest of one accused, identified as Deep Dutta, on Saturday. The two remaining suspects, Diptanu Das and Abhijit Pal, who initially fled the scene, were arrested on Sunday based on a tip-off. The arrest operation was led by West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar, along with Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Deba Prasad Roy and the cooperation of Amtali Police Station. Both Diptanu and Abhijit were apprehended in the Amtali Police Station area.
