Agartala, 14th April 2025:  In a swift inter-state operation, Tamil Nadu Police on Monday apprehended two individuals from Tripura’s Sepahijala district in connection with a gold theft case reported in Chennai.

The accused, identified as Liton Mia and Zakir Hossain alias Biton Mia, were arrested from the Charilam Aralia area under Bishalgarh Sub-division with the assistance of Bishalgarh Police. Sources said the duo had allegedly committed a theft in Chennai on April 7—the same day they reportedly arrived there for work.

The accused are suspected of stealing gold ornaments worth over ₹4 lakh from a residence in the Thairovanmayur area of Chennai. Following the registration of an FIR by the victims, local police launched an investigation and soon tracked the suspects to their hometown in Tripura.

A team from Tamil Nadu Police reached Tripura and, after locating the accused, took them into custody on Monday afternoon. The duo was brought to Bishalgarh police station for preliminary legal procedures before being escorted to Agartala Airport and flown to Chennai the same evening under tight security.Emotional scenes unfolded at the police station as family members of the arrested men broke down in tears upon learning of the arrests.
