Agartala, 31st December 2025:  Police have arrested two youths in connection with the murder of delivery boy Prabir Shil in the Tufania Lunga Tea Garden area under Lefunga police station today.

The arrested accused have been identified as Shekhar Tanti and Tanmay Urang. According to police sources, both were detained from the Tufania Lunga area.

Officer-in-Charge of Lefunga police station, Sahadev Das, said that the accused will be produced before the court today. He also informed that Prabir Shil’s father has lodged an FIR against four persons in total, and police operations are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining accused.

The deceased, Prabir Shil, was a resident of Noagaon under the Bamutia Assembly constituency and worked as a delivery boy. The incident has triggered panic and tension in the locality.

According to family members, last Sunday when Prabir did not return home, his father called his mobile phone. The call was answered by another youth, who informed him that Prabir was being assaulted by a group of people and was being taken towards the tea garden area. Alarmed by the information, Prabir’s father rushed to the spot. Failing to find his son there, he began searching the surrounding areas.

Later, Prabir was found in a critically injured and near-unconscious condition at the Sardar Para area. The family alleged that after being taken to hospital, Prabir managed to name some of the attackers and stated that he had been called to the spot by a few known persons. Subsequently, one youth reportedly came and handed over Prabir’s broken mobile phone to his father.

Despite all efforts by the doctors, Prabir Shil succumbed to his injuries. His father alleged that there were severe injury marks all over his body, and it is suspected that he was brutally beaten with iron rods or other hard objects.

After the post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday, the body was handed over to the family. Standing in front of the GB Hospital morgue, Prabir’s father demanded a fair and impartial investigation into his son’s death and called for the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all those involved.
