Agartala, 5th February 2025:   After a prolonged suspension of two months and two days, visa services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner Office in Agartala resumed today, bringing relief to many who had been waiting to travel across the border.

Since early morning, large crowds have gathered in front of the commission office, eager to obtain visas and resume their travel plans. Many applicants expressed their satisfaction and relief, hoping that there would be no further disruptions in visa issuance.

The suspension of visa services was linked to political turmoil in Bangladesh following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government. Amidst the ensuing unrest, noted traditional preacher Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari was arrested, sparking a wave of protests in Agartala against the alleged persecution of Hindus under the caretaker government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The demonstrations, particularly the one held on December 3 in front of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, following which the office came under attack. In response, the Bangladesh government halted visa issuance and withdrew all officials from the commission in Agartala.

With the resumption of visa services today, there is renewed optimism among travelers and businesses that cross-border movement will proceed smoothly. The restoration of services marks a significant step towards normalizing diplomatic relations and easing tensions that had built up over the past two months.
