Agartala, 28th June 2024:   The West Tripura district administration has issued new safety guidelines for this year’s Rath Yatra. One significant instruction is for organizers to keep the height of Lord Jagannath’s chariots below five meters.

West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar announced that the Rath Yatra will take place in Agartala city from July 7 to 16.  “Around six organizations, including temples, will participate in this Rath Yatra, with the major participants being Jagannath Bari and ISKCON temple,” Dr. Kumar said.

On Thursday, a meeting was held with all stakeholders, including the Public Works Department (PWD), Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL), Tripura Police, Traffic Police, Health Department, and other services. During this meeting, restrictions and guidelines were issued to ensure the event’s safety.

Dr. Kumar noted that last year’s incident in Kumarghat led the state government to issue stern warnings to organizers.  “We are committed to preventing any untoward incidents this year and have made all necessary arrangements,” he stated.

Specific instructions have been given to the PWD and TSECL to inspect the proposed chariots, with TSECL focusing on transmission lines along the designated routes of the Rath Yatra. The height of the Rath or chariot has been fixed at 5 meters, and PWD and TSECL will ensure minimal use of metal. Additionally, police escorts, ambulances, and fire and emergency services vehicles will follow the chariots to ensure safety throughout the event.
