Agartala, 13th May 2025: A shocking case of alleged domestic violence and kidnapping has surfaced from Ward No. 4 of Sonapur Gram Panchayat under Sonamura Police Station limits in Paharpur, where a woman was reportedly abducted by her husband in broad daylight.
According to the complaint filed with the Sonamura Police, Nazma Begum, who had taken shelter at her parental home due to alleged torture by her husband, was forcibly taken away by her husband Abu Taher and his associates around 9 AM when her mother had stepped out to collect ration supplies.
“My daughter has been suffering in silence for years. Since her marriage 12 years ago to Abu Taher, he has been torturing her mentally and physically. She returned to my house a few days ago, begging not to be sent back. But we were helpless and decided to send her back after consulting village elders. Today, she was kidnapped right from my house,” said Nasima Khatun, mother of the victim, while speaking to the media personnel today.The couple has a son who is currently studying in a madrasa. Nazma had earlier alleged that her husband attempted to take her to the capital with the intention of selling her, but she managed to escape and return home. Nasima Khatun fears a repeat of that incident. “I believe he has kidnapped her again with the same intention,” she added.
A formal FIR has been lodged at Sonamura Police Station against Abu Taher. Locals confirmed that Nazma’s mother rushed to the police after learning about the abduction. The incident has sparked concern in the community, prompting calls for immediate intervention.
“I beg the state administration to help me bring my daughter back safely,” Nasima Khatun pleaded.
Police have launched an investigation, but at the time of reporting, Nazma Begum had not been located.
