Agartala, 8th September 2025 :   A 100-bed working women’s hostel is set to be constructed at Belonia under the joint initiatives of the central and state governments’ Mission Shakti programme. Designed to support women employed in both government and private sectors, the hostel will offer affordable accommodation and include amenities such as a ground-floor parking area and a play zone for residents’ children.

Spanning approximately 1,959 square feet, the three-storey facility will be built adjacent to the Belonia Akashvani station and near the Hrishyamukh Agriculture Division Office. The total project cost including construction, electrification and furnishing is estimated at Rs 11.14 crore. The foundation stone was unveiled in a ceremony attended by MLAs Pramod Reang and Swapna Majumdar, South Tripura district’s DM Mohammad Sajad P, IAS, municipal chairman Nikhil Chandra Ghosh, and several social workers and officials. The event began with traditional lamp lighting and a welcome for dignitaries.

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha also virtually inaugurated five development projects across the state, including those in Agartala, Sabroom and Belonia. MLA Pramod Reang proposed that even hostels with 50 beds should be considered where 100-bed facilities are not feasible. Despite short notice, public turnout at the event was notable.
