Agartala, 7th January 2026 :  The Mizo Convention Youth Wing (MCYW) of Jampui Hills in Tripura’s North District has submitted a memorandum to the Officer-in-Charge of Vanghmun Police Station, calling for immediate steps to address rising incidents of vandalism and alleged misconduct by tourists in the region.

The appeal follows a series of vandalism incidents reportedly carried out by unidentified miscreants in the Jampui Hills area. Known as Tripura’s highest hill range, Jampui Hills is celebrated for its scenic landscapes, pleasant climate, and rich cultural heritage of the Lushai and Mizo communities, drawing tourists for trekking, sunrise and sunset views, and cultural experiences.

In its memorandum, the MCYW voiced grave concern over developments it says are undermining social harmony, public safety, and local cultural values. The organization cited damage to official signboards and posters belonging to MCYW and JSBMP near Hmunpui village, as well as vandalism of signage installed at the entrance to the paragliding site at Tlaksih.

Describing the acts as intentional and deeply disrespectful, the youth wing urged the police to conduct a detailed investigation, identify those responsible, and take strict legal action.

The memorandum also highlighted concerns over the open consumption of alcohol and intoxicants by tourists along roadsides and in public spaces. According to MCYW, such behavior runs contrary to the cultural norms of the area and could pose safety risks, particularly to women and children. The group has sought increased police patrolling and stricter enforcement to curb these activities.

To enhance monitoring and accountability, MCYW proposed maintaining a record of all tourist vehicles entering Jampui Hills, including vehicle registration numbers, drivers’ names, and valid contact details. The organization believes this measure would support better regulation and law enforcement.

Additionally, the youth body appealed for restrictions on the use of loudspeakers by visitors within village limits, stating that excessive noise disrupts the peace of village life and disturbs community harmony.

The memorandum was signed by MCYW President Lalduhsanga Thangluah and General Secretary Vanrokima Royte. Expressing confidence in the local police, the organization said it expects the Vanghmun Police Station to act promptly to safeguard the dignity, safety, and social fabric of the Jampui Hills community.
