Agartala, 19th February 2026:    A youth from Kamalasagar’s 26 Card area has fallen victim to a fraudulent mobile phone scheme, losing his savings to scammers who lured him with repeated phone calls and false promises.

The victim Bikash Das was offered a Redmi smartphone worth around Rs 10,000– Rs 12,000 in the market for just Rs 4,600. Persuaded by the callers, he agreed to pay upon delivery at the local post office. This afternoon, a parcel arrived at Madhupur Post Office, and Das rushed there with excitement. He paid the agreed amount of Rs 4,600, expecting his dream phone.

However, upon opening the package, his joy turned into despair. Instead of a smartphone, the parcel contained two old belts and a broken wristwatch, together worth barely Rs 200. Shocked and devastated, Das realized he had been cheated.

According to his complaint, the fraudsters repeatedly called him from the number 6970681523, assuring him of the deal. The parcel itself carried packaging labeled “Amazon,” further misleading him into believing the offer was genuine.

Das has lodged a case with Madhupur Police Station against the mobile number and the companies mentioned. He fears his money is gone for good, as the payment was already deposited at the post office.

The victim, who comes from a financially struggling household, broke down in tears after realizing he had been tricked. He was later told over the phone that the “real mobile” would be delivered to his home by 3 pm, a promise he suspects is yet another lie.

Local residents say similar scams have took place before, with victims promised refunds or deliveries that never materialized. They urge authorities to take strict action against such fraudulent operations, warning that if unchecked, these schemes could spread further and cause greater harm to unsuspecting citizens.
