Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC), a regional planning body of eight northeastern states, here in Meghalaya
on Friday, an official said on Tuesday.
Governors and chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, who are also members of the NEC, will attend the plenary meet
to be held at State Convention Centre.
Shah is the ex-officio chairperson of the council while Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) minister G. Kishan Reddy is its vice-chairman.
Reddy and Minister of State, DoNER, B.L. Verma, including senior officers of DoNER and NITI Aayog, will take part in the plenary.
Organizations like Assam Rifles, NEEPCo, NHIDCL, NEDFi, NERCORMS, NERAMAC, NEHHDCL, NESAC and NIC will also be attending the plenary.
During the plenary meet, Shah will release the NEC Year Book on this occasion. Secretary of NEC, K Moses Chalai will present the welcome address. Secretary of DoNER Chanchal Kumar, will brief
on activities being undertaken in DoNER.
A pre-interaction meet with chief secretaries of NE States, Secretaries of Central Ministries, representatives of NITI Aayog, Director General Assam Rifles and planning Secretaries of NER
will be organised on Thursday.
