Both Houses adjourned till 2 pm amid uproar by Opposition

Date:

) Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till 2 pm today after Opposition members created a ruckus demanding a discussion on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues.

As soon as the Lok Sabha reconvened at 1 PM, Opposition members rose from their seats, demanding a discussion on SIR. Some members also held placards bearing the message ‘Stop SIR’.

Amid the commotion, Speaker Om Birla said, “I spoke with the leaders of all parties, and they all agreed that there should be a discussion on Operation Sindoor. I agreed, and the government agreed as well. Now, once again, I request you to allow a discussion on Operation Sindoor”.

Urging the agitating members to allow the House to take up discussion on Operation Sindoor, Birla said, “I once again request you. You should have discussed in the all-party meeting that first there should be a discussion on SIR, only then we will allow the House to function. First, you make a commitment. If the House runs, it will run on Operation Sindoor”.

The Speaker then adjourned the House till 2 pm.

Earlier, the Lower House saw two adjournments — one at 12 noon and the second at 1 pm.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 PM, following continuous disruptions by the Opposition. As a result, no business could be conducted during the Question Hour.

As soon as the Question Hour commenced, members from some Opposition parties raised points of order and began creating a commotion.

After the morning session was disrupted during Zero Hour, the House reconvened at 12 noon, only to face renewed protests. Members from various Opposition parties stood at their seats, demanding debates on multiple issues and causing further uproar.

Presiding Vice Chairman Ghanshyam Tiwari urged the protesting members to maintain order, reminding them that the ongoing session was the Question Hour, which is specifically meant for addressing questions.

But commotion continued and the Chair adjourned the House till 2 pm.
