A local district court in West Bengal here ordered the confiscation of the District Magistrate’s official bungalow and thereafter its auction, the proceed of which will go to the person, who handed over his land for expansion of a National Highway, as compensation, court sources said on Saturday.
The order was pronounced by the East Bardhaman District Sessions court on Friday after land giver Sushanta Kumar Goswami sought the judicial intervention for the second time in 2023 that the government has not paid his money despite a court ruling in 2010.
Goswami parted his land in 2007 after the local administration assured him to pay the cost of land as per valuation for expansion of the Durgapur Expressway.
When the government did not pay him the money for land he moved the court and an order of 2010 was issued to pay Rs 26 lakh as per valuation.
The land giver again moved to the court in 2015 and demanded Rs 54 lakh as per then valuation of the market.
Again Goswami knocked the door of court in 2023 and demanded Rs 2 lakh as per valuation and the court on Friday ordered the confiscation of the East Bardhaman District’s Magistrate Bungalow to be auctioned and pay the money from its proceeds. sources added.
