Leaders of Maldives, Mauritius, Bhutan arrive for Modi’s swearing-in ceremony

The leaders of Mauritius, the Maldives and Bhutan arrived on Sunday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The President of Sri Lanka and the Prime Minister of Nepal are also scheduled to arrive.

On Saturday, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina arrived to a warm welcome, as well as the Vice President of Seychelles Ahmed Afif.

The Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay was welcomed by Secretary West in the MEA Pavan Kapoor.

“The visit will further strengthen close bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Bhutan,” the MEA spokesperson said on X.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth arrived to a warm welcome.

“India and Mauritius enjoy historically special ties and close maritime partnership,” the MEA spokesperson said.

Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu arrived to warm welcome in New Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi. He was received by Secretary West Amb Pavan Kapoor.

“India and Maldives are maritime partners and close neighbours,” the MEA posted.

The High Commissioner of Maldives to India Ibrahim Shaheeb, as well as Munu Mahawar, the Indian High Commissioner to Male, were also there to receive the Maldivian President upon his arrival.

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s delegation will include his daughter Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, Head of South Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bhrigu Dhungana, Chief of Protocol Bishnu Prasad Gautam, Protocol Officer Prabin Bhattarai and three security personnel.

Nepali Ambassador to New Delhi Shankar Sharma and Deputy Chief of Mission at the embassy, Surendra Thapa will join the Nepal prime minister’s delegation from New Delhi.

Leaders from India’s neighbourhood and the Indian Ocean Region have been invited as distinguished guests for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, the MEA said.
