Senior political leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of transformative leadership and public service.
Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar leading the nation in remembering the stalwart.
Prime Minister Modi hailed Krishna as “a remarkable leader, admired by people from all walks of life.” He highlighted Krishna’s tenure as Karnataka’s Chief Minister, particularly for his contributions to infrastructural development, and praised his intellectual pursuits, calling him “a prolific reader and thinker.”
President Murmu expressed sorrow over Krishna’s demise, stating, “Sad to learn about the demise of Shri S.M. Krishna who served people in various capacities during his long career in public life.” She noted his dedication to Karnataka’s development as Chief Minister and offered heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar paid tribute in the Upper House, describing Krishna as “a statesman of great wisdom, an able administrator, and a transformative leader.” In his obituary reference, Dhankhar emphasised Krishna’s pivotal role in public service and strengthening India’s global presence during his illustrious career.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remembered Krishna as a transformative figure, stating, “Saddened to learn of the passing of Shri SM Krishna. His decades of work significantly contributed to Karnataka’s development and Bengaluru’s transformation into a technological hub.” He extended his condolences to Krishna’s family and loved ones.
