Rahul Gandhi participates in Basava Jayanti at Kudala Sangama

Hubballi, Apr 23 (UNI) Former AICC President Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day visit to poll-bound Karnataka, on Sunday participated in the Basava Jayanti at Kudala Sangama, Lingayat’s pilgrimage centre.

He also offered obeisance to 12th-century poet and social reformer Basaveshwara at his resting place in Kudala Sangama on the occasion of his birth anniversary. The Gandhi scion accepted prasadam (lunch) at Kudala Sangama Dasoha Bhavan on the occasion Basava Jayanti which was organised by Utsava at Basava Mantapa.

The Gandhi scion was accompanied by AICC General KC Venugopal, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, state Congress Campaign Committee President MB Patil and other leaders.
Speaking at the event, Rahul Gandhi talked about Basavanna who laid the foundation for democracy and rights in India.Basavanna did not abandon the path of truth and questioned bad practices in the society, Rahul Gandhi said.”It is not easy to speak the truth. Despite threats Basavanna, did not abandon the path of truth and questioned bad practices in the society. Therefore, he is revered even today,” he said.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi arrived in Hubballi from New Delhi, and flew to Kudala Sangama by helicopter. After reaching there, he had darshan at Sangamanatha Temple and Aikya Linga.
Kudala Sangama, situated at the confluence of the rivers Krishna and Malaprabha in Bagalkot district, is a pilgrim centre.
