One woman was killed and at least 42 others injured after a fire swept through two floors of a building in downtown Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, on Tuesday.
The injured, mostly from smoke inhalation, received treatment from healthcare professionals, with 35 of them sent to hospitals, local media reported.
The blaze engulfed the 6th and 7th floors of the 14-story office and residential building located on Alem Avenue. Investigation was underway to determine the cause of the fire.
Authorities said people from the lower floors were evacuated, while firefighters and emergency health services personnel worked together to rescue those on the upper ones.
“As a precaution, the red alert was activated at all hospitals in nearby areas pending the possible transfer of patients,” they added.
